Who is Irene Chalik?
Master Seamstress with Over 40 Years of Experience in Custom Alterations and Tailoring – Based in Horsham, PA
Born and raised in Odessa, Ukraine, Irene Chalik’s passion for sewing began at a young age. She graduated with honors from a professional sewing school in Odessa in 1982, earning a prestigious Red Diploma—an achievement reserved for top-tier graduates. Irene’s early career flourished at a local atelier, where she specialized in crafting custom-tailored jackets and coats.
In 1989, Irene immigrated to the United States, bringing with her a deep heritage of European craftsmanship. Her talent quickly caught the attention of American designers. From 1990, she worked with fashion designer Lora Sara in Bala Cynwyd, creating custom dresses for high-profile clients—including stage outfits for Mariah Carey and evening maternity wear for actress Annette Bening.
From 1994 to 2001, Irene served as a sample maker for Jones New York, refining her technical skills in ready-to-wear fashion. She then joined Janice Martin Couture Studio, where she spent nearly a decade designing and crafting bespoke bridal gowns, evening dresses, and custom suits for mothers of the bride and groom.
From 2011 to 2023, Irene worked at Ralph Lauren’s New York City headquarters as a Technical Designer. There, she collaborated closely with top fashion designers to develop eveningwear and jumpsuits for large-scale production overseas.
Now based in Horsham, PA, Irene brings her lifetime of experience, couture-level skills, and European sensibility to every alteration, tailoring job, and custom garment she creates. Her attention to detail, fit, and quality makes her a trusted professional seamstress for clients seeking expert craftsmanship with a personal touch.
